I went for a job interview – these crazy working conditions made me laugh out loud

Talk about quitting while you’re ahead.

A job applicant was so taken aback by the strange terms described by his potential boss that he laughed out loud and walked out of the interview early.

The job seeker described the incident as “absolutely insane” in a Reddit post that is earning him praise online.

“There should be anti-cussing laws next to everything they’re doing,” the Redditor stated in the post while describing the correspondence that took place over the phone.

The man didn’t explain the nature of the gig, only explaining that it “involved inventory” and was advertised as a “full-time” job with full benefits but no salary listed.

Although the interviewer noted that he would only be paid $16 an hour – the first red flag.

The interviewee became increasingly concerned after the interviewer mentioned that his future position “couldn’t guarantee full hours.”

“One week it could be zero and the next it could be 50,” the applicant recalled.

Additionally, the company’s employees were required to travel across the state using their own vehicle and were not paid while traveling as bosses considered it “like a ride”.

However, things got even worse when the interviewer described the other condition associated with the role.

“The job was advertised as full-time, but it turns out they can’t guarantee hours, so one week it could be zero and the next it could be fifty, according to her (the boss),” the Redditor writes. Valery Honcharuk – stock.adobe.com
The Redditor’s post describes how they left a potentially terrible job before it even started.

The company would choose hotel accommodation and pay for it while employees were traveling for work – but there was a catch.

Employees potentially had to stay with an unknown party.

“Okay, I can deal with your sh-hotels, but you have to share a room with a stranger,” the Redditor shouted. “Of course it would be another employee, but like I said you travel all over the state. It could be anyone from anywhere.”

He added, “I’m not getting busted in a sh-y hotel for sixteen bucks an hour and zero hours.”

The Redditor found this proposal so ridiculous that it broke into hysterics. “I didn’t want to burst out laughing, when she looked at me confused, I just laughed and said, ‘It’s horrible, do people do that?’

At that point, the employer – who was visibly upset – asked if the man wanted to continue the interview, to which he replied “Sir no” and hung up, mailed.

Surprisingly, viewers appreciated the man’s reaction.

“When they say something completely ridiculous, they deserve a laugh,” said one commenter.

Another quipped: “Damn you, you accidentally laughed at that offer. The next time this situation arises, make sure you laugh on purpose instead.”

“It’s a laughable proposition to be fair,” said a third.

Others found the salary and hotel policy ridiculous.

“Dunkin’ Donuts pays that much or more where I live. No need to sleep,” one Redditor quipped.

“There are so many reasons from an employer’s point of view not to do room-sharing, there’s only one reason to do room-sharing,” said another. “I haven’t worked anywhere that allowed this in 20 years.”
